As excitement builds for SXSW EDU 2024, we dive deeper into the initial lineup of sessions by exploring popular themes to help you discover unique content in the schedule. Nature education and climate solutions are top of mind for the SXSW EDU community, and sessions on these topics can be found across the 2024 program.

In the ever-changing landscape of education, understanding the world around us, especially when it comes to nature and our climate, is more important than ever. In a recent report from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), only 53% of the world’s national education curriculum referenced climate change.

At this year’s event, powerful speakers will explore many opportunities and fresh approaches for integrating nature education and climate solutions into the educational sector.

Dive Into 2024 Nature Education and Climate Solutions Focused Sessions:

In the urgent discourse surrounding climate change, communities of color often find themselves underrepresented in the broader dialogue. Bridging this gap is not just about discussing climate issues but also about ensuring that these discussions resonate with everyone. The Solo session, The Power of Inclusive Stories in Climate Change, explores how stories coming from a range of perspectives make room for a more diverse group of climate heroes.

The Panel, The Nature Gap: Why ‘Outdoors for All’ Matters, will discuss the issue of equitable access to outdoor education as experts from Texas Parks & Wildlife, Black Outside, Latino Outdoors, Texas State University School of Social Work and the Outdoor Behavioral Healthcare Center discuss the “nature gap.”

In the Panel, Sustainable Bites: How Ur Campus Meal Fights Climate Change, professionals will discuss how universities can play a special role in fighting climate change. This session will look at how campus services can work with different groups to tackle issues like reusing resources, reducing food waste, and promoting healthy diets.

Join climate and education experts in the Panel, Higher Education’s Role in Climate: The Missing Piece, to explore how community colleges can play a unique role in climate action.

Take part in the Innovation in the Outdoors Meet Up with the California State Parks PORTS Program to discuss accessible outdoor education for underserved K-12 communities as well as creating equitable opportunities for students to connect with nature.
