Photo & Video Policies

General Attendees

The general public is permitted to use hand-held cameras and/or smart phones to take photographs and capture digital images at the SXSW EDU Conference & Festival and within SXSW EDU event venues for personal, non-commercial use, provided the photography is not disruptive. Registrants may take photos from their seats, as long as they are not standing in the press area, obstructing views or using flash after the session begins. Photographs may not be published, sold, reproduced, transmitted, distributed or otherwise commercially exploited in any manner whatsoever.

Video recordings are not permitted for the general public at any time.

By attending SXSW EDU events, you consent to having your image captured by official SXSW EDU photographers and videographers. The resulting materials, including still photographs, video and audio recordings may be used by SXSW EDU, without restriction, in news materials, promotional materials, on the SXSW EDU web site and other properties.

Professional photography and videography at SXSW EDU Events is not permitted without press credentials and a Camera Tag provided by the SXSW EDU Publicity Department.

Under no circumstances are tripods, lights and elaborate set ups permitted in any SXSW EDU venue hallways.

At the event, you will need to bring your camera with you to the Press table in the Registration area of the Austin Convention Center to have the tag affixed to the housing of the camera. The camera tag must be affixed to your camera AT ALL TIMES. Only accredited press are eligible to receive a camera tag.

Press credentials and photographer/videographer camera tags are issued at the discretion of SXSW EDU and can be withdrawn at any time if misused. Upon receipt of your camera tag, you will be required to sign a form confirming that you have read and understand this policy.
