The Policy & Civic Engagement track addresses education policy issues across local, regional, national, and international governance.
Topics include funding, curriculum and assessment standards, student data use and privacy, school safety, and digital policies, as well as economic development, advocacy and activism, and public-private partnerships.
SXSW EDU aims to represent the community's goals yearly, and as such prioritizes community engagement in the session selection process through PanelPicker®. Sessions are crowdsourced before being voted on and reviewed by the community, the Advisory Board, and SXSW EDU staff.

The Policy & Civic Engagement Track is sponsored by The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation
About the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation: The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation invests in creative thinkers and problem solvers who are working to ensure everyone has a meaningful opportunity to thrive. The Hewlett Foundation harnesses society’s collective capacity to solve our toughest problems — from the existential threat of climate change, to persistent and pervasive inequities, to attacks on democracy itself. As one of the largest philanthropic organizations in the United States, we promote constructive dialogue across difference, and we provide reliable, responsive, and strategic support to our partners. Together, we are working to build an inclusive society where people, communities, and the planet flourish.
About the Hewlett Foundation’s Education Program: The Hewlett Foundation's Education Program is steadfast in our belief that public education builds both individual success and collective good. Meaningful educational opportunities equip students to shape the world they live in as leaders in their communities and as full participants in our democracy, creating outcomes that all of society benefits from. To do so, we work directly with local leaders who understand their community's opportunities best, and invest in approaches that challenge existing structures to build systems of learning that center student success and collective experiences.
