Proficient literacy skills are a stepping stone to knowledge, critical thinking, curiosity, and lifelong learning. Beyond conventional reading and writing, literacy is a focal point for many discussions at SXSW EDU, calling attention to current challenges and crises along with highlighting the latest emerging technologies and the best strategies for promoting literacy skills for students.

According to the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), average scores in reading for 13-year-olds have declined 4 points in the 2022-2023 school year when compared to the 2019-2020 school year.

In March, these conversations will continue to dive into the multifaceted aspects of literacy, from reading, to AI, media and more. Check out what’s new in literacy content for 2024.
