Janine Walker-Caffrey

Senior Advisor, Avathon Capital

  • I'm an educator, turned edtech executive, with deep roots in public education and a passion for teaching kids to read.
  • At SXSW EDU 2023, I'm excited to learn more about how everyone in our ecosystem is working toward the connection of research to practice, supported by great edtech.
  • You'll find my own session on my schedule - "Why Interoperability Matters for EdTech Startups" where we'll discuss how and why to ensure your solution can interact with other tech in the classroom. I'm also excited to be attending sessions that help us move the needle on literacy, and connect research to practice. My life's mission is to improve literacy, and my current goal is to make each teacher's work easier. Anything that supports these two things is at the top of my list!

Sunil Gunderia

Chief Innovation Officer, Age of Learning

  • With a background in advising tech companies on strategy, product, and execution, I now oversee the innovation strategy at Age of Learning, a leading edtech innovator, and led the development, distribution, and implementation of our research-proven, adaptive educational programs for pre-K through second grade.
  • This year at SXSW EDU, I am interested in hearing from thought leaders and practitioners on topics related to transforming the future of education. The spotlight on improving education is brighter than ever before, and I’m fascinated by educators, companies, nonprofits, and the like who are rising to the moment and committed to innovations in our education system that will set current and future generations up for success.
  • Math and reading scores continue to decline for children across the U.S., as the recent Nation’s Report Card results show. I’ll be attending sessions at SXSW EDU that relate to reversing this trend through innovative, equitable approaches that are proven to drive positive learning outcomes.
