Alaa Murabit, Jim Shelton, and Jessica Lahey SXSW EDU 2018 Closing Program keynotes.

It's with great excitement that we announce Alaa Murabit, Jim Shelton, and Jessica Lahey for the SXSW EDU 2018 closing program. In three back-to-back, 30 minute keynotes, this year's closing program will take a full circle look at preparing every child for success, in and out of the classroom.

Medical doctor and international advocate, Alaa Murabit, will kick off the closing program with a look at the intersection of education, conflict and emerging global issues. Her keynote will share unique research, some recommendations, and key strategies to move forward in today's complex and changing educational landscape.

Jim Shelton will then take the stage, narrowing the lens to focus intently on individual learners through a personalized approach in the classroom. His keynote will address the urgency to broaden our definitions of success in education and leverage new science, strategies, and tools to attend to the needs of the whole child and those who serve them is foundational to building that skill and ensuring a future for everyone.

Last but not least, veteran teacher, author, and education journalist Jessica Lahey will break down the motivation, resilience and learning, and explain how autonomy-supportive parenting and teaching not only boosts kids' motivation, but improves educational outcomes. Using personal narrative and humor, Lahey's keynote will explore the research on extrinsic and intrinsic motivators, praise, and learned helplessness, while offering instruction and assessment methods that promote deep, durable learning and engagement.
