ABOUT

The SXSW EDU Film program highlights poignant narratives and documentaries focusing on all aspects of education. With films that tackle the social impacts on domestic and international education, peer into classrooms, explore the journey to becoming an educator, and more, the Film program is an integral and compelling component of SXSW EDU.

All screenings conclude with a Q&A featuring the filmmakers, film subjects, or experts on the topic at hand, providing attendees an opportunity to connect with the film more deeply.

New for 2026 we are accepting applications for short films (5 min - 10 min) in addition to feature length films (50 min - 90 min) as part of the film program application. Applications for both categories will be reviewed using the same criteria.

The SXSW EDU 2026 Film applications will open on August 5, 2025.

Please note that the SXSW EDU Film program is a programming component of SXSW EDU and not a film festival. It is distinct from and should not be confused with the SXSW Film & TV Festival.
