Tips to Know Before You Go To SXSW EDU 2024

Whether it’s your first time attending SXSW EDU or you’re a seasoned veteran, it’s always good to come prepared.

Knowing the many resources available to stay organized can be very helpful with such a large selection of sessions and events scheduled for the 2024 event. We’ve compiled a list of tools available to attendees and a packing list to make sure your time at SXSW EDU is the best yet.

Download the Mobile App

Keep the SXSW EDU schedule and venue maps close at all times by downloading the SXSW EDU GO app. Available for iOS and Android, use the mobile app to save the sessions you are looking forward to and build your personalized schedule, or add connections and chat with your new network. Personalized networking and programming recommendations can also be found in the SXSW EDU GO app. Explore all the mobile app features to enhance your experience.

Check the Event Status

Check the current status of a room or a venue’s remaining capacity by viewing the Event Status. In the mobile app, the online SXSW EDU Schedule, and on digital Event Status Boards located around the ACC and other venues, you will find a Green-Yellow-Red system. Green indicates that there is still plenty of room available, Yellow indicates that the room is nearing full, while Red indicates that the room is at capacity and is no longer accepting attendees.

Green = GO

Yellow = HURRY

Red = FULL

Plan Your Transportation

There are many ways to get around Austin, including CapMetro Public Transportation, Pedicabs, Electric Cabs, Taxi service, and parking. Find the mode of transportation that works best for you.

Check the Attendee Services Hub

Find everything you need to know as a SXSW EDU registrant in the Attendee Services Hub. Here, you can learn how to link your credential, when and where you can pick up your badge, and more.

Pack for Every Occasion

SXSW EDU is a dynamic conference and festival, so you will be spending a lot of time moving. Pack comfortable clothes, as you should plan to walk a lot, and be prepared to adapt to Austin's ever-changing weather. A tip from us - check the weather forecast before setting off each day.

We’ve put together a list of items that would be helpful for you to pack:

  • Comfortable shoes: You will be getting lots of steps in, so be comfort-conscious when selecting footwear, and bring extra socks
  • Water bottle: Texas heat can be unruly and the air in programming venues can be dry, so stay hydrated throughout the event by packing a reusable water bottle. You’ll find water stations throughout the building to refill your water bottle.
  • Sunscreen: The sun in Texas is no joke, so be sure to apply and reapply sunscreen throughout the day to protect your skin.
  • Jacket: The programming venues can get pretty cold, so bring a jacket to ensure you stay comfortable throughout the day.
  • Portable charger: Bring a portable charger to ensure that your devices stay charged for the duration of your day and night.
  • Notepad and pen: Don’t forget key takeaways from your favorite sessions by jotting them down on your notepad.

Pace Yourself

Remember, SXSW EDU is a marathon, not a sprint. You will have the urge to cram as much as possible into your schedule. Try to resist that temptation, as it could make you overwhelmed and lose energy, slowing you down for the rest of the event.

We hope these tips will help you have an exciting and successful SXSW EDU 2024!
