LeVar Burton has gained a lasting legacy in his starring television role as Geordi La Forge in the science fiction series Star Trek: The Next Generation. Following his famous role as Kunta Kinte, the lead in the acclaimed miniseries Roots that initially launched his career, the acclaimed actor has earned a lasting status as a world wide icon, representing the indomitability of the human spirit with his celebrated performances.

A Passion for Education

Channeling his many talents, the star has been a pivotal player both on camera and behind. An advocate for literacy and learning engagement, he has promoted education for decades as host and executive producer for twenty-five seasons on the PBS children's television series Reading Rainbow. The series, earning a total of 13 Emmy Awards, five NAACP Awards, among countless other nominations has served as an impactive medium in promoting a passion for reading.
